Privacy Policy

Effective date: March 26, 2026

Welcome to Everybody Poops: Bathroom Map (“we,” “our,” or “us”). We built this app because everyone deserves to find a clean bathroom — and we take your privacy just as seriously as you take finding one in an emergency. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect it.

1. Data We Collect

Account Information

When you register, we collect your email address and username. Your email is used only for authentication, account recovery, and optional product updates (which you can opt out of at any time).

Location Data

With your permission, we access your device's location to show nearby bathrooms and calculate distances. We do not store your precise location history on our servers. Location data is used only in real time during your session to power the map and the Emergency Poop button. You can revoke location access at any time in your device settings.

Poop Logs

When you use the Captain's Log feature, we store your logged entries including the date, time, Bristol Stool Scale type, duration, and any notes you add. This data is tied to your account and is used to power personal analytics and leaderboard features.

Bathroom Reviews & Submissions

Reviews and bathroom submissions you create are stored on our servers and associated with your username. Reviews are visible to other users of the app. Bathroom submissions may be moderated before appearing publicly.

Usage Data

We collect basic usage analytics (pages visited, features used, crash reports) to improve the app. This data is not linked to personally identifiable information beyond your account.

2. How We Use Your Data

We use your data to:

  • Provide and improve the Everybody Poops app and its features
  • Show you nearby bathrooms and calculate distances
  • Power your personal poop diary, streaks, and achievements
  • Display leaderboard rankings (based on your username, not personal info)
  • Facilitate the friends and social features if you opt in
  • Send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset)
  • Respond to your support requests
  • Enforce our Terms of Service and moderate content

3. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored in a Neon PostgreSQL database hosted on servers managed by Fly.io. Fly.io operates infrastructure in multiple regions; your data may be stored in the United States or other regions where Fly.io has data centers.

We use industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. Passwords are never stored in plain text — they are hashed using a secure one-way algorithm.

While we take security seriously, no system is 100% foolproof. In the event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you promptly in accordance with applicable law.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:

Google Maps Platform

Powers the interactive map, bathroom location display, and address geocoding. Google may collect usage data per their terms. See Google Privacy Policy.

Cloudflare

Used for DNS, DDoS protection, and email routing. Cloudflare may process request metadata. See Cloudflare Privacy Policy.

Google AdMob

Free users may see ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data for ad targeting. Premium subscribers do not see ads. See Google Privacy Policy.

Apple MapKit

The iOS app uses Apple MapKit for maps. Apple may collect usage data per their terms. See Apple Privacy Policy.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third party for advertising or marketing purposes beyond what is described above regarding AdMob ad serving.

5. Your Rights (GDPR & CCPA)

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Export: Premium users can export their poop log data as CSV; all users can request a data export by contacting us
  • Opt-out: Opt out of marketing emails at any time via the unsubscribe link or by contacting us
  • Portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.

We do not sell personal information as defined under the CCPA.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. If you delete your account:

  • Private data is deleted immediately: Poop logs, friendships, support tickets, and achievement progress are permanently removed.
  • Public contributions are anonymized: Reviews, bathroom submissions, and name suggestions you made remain visible to the community but are attributed to “Deleted User” with no link to your identity.
  • Account is deactivated: Your email, username, display name, bio, and avatar are replaced with anonymized placeholders. Your account cannot be recovered after deletion.

Anonymized aggregate data (e.g., bathroom visit counts, review averages) may be retained indefinitely as it cannot be linked back to you.

7. Children's Privacy

Our app is rated 4+ and is designed to be family-friendly. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

8. Data Sources & Accuracy

Bathroom location data in Everybody Poops is sourced from a combination of:

  • Publicly available data: Including OpenStreetMap (OSM) and other open geographic databases. This data is contributed by a global community of volunteers and may not always be current or complete.
  • User submissions: Bathrooms submitted by app users go through a moderation review process before being published.
  • Community verification: Our team and community members verify and update bathroom data for accuracy, including confirming locations, hours of operation, and accessibility features.

While we strive to keep bathroom information accurate and up to date, we cannot guarantee the completeness or accuracy of all listings. Bathroom availability, hours, and conditions may change without notice. We encourage users to report inaccurate listings through the app's reporting feature so our moderation team can review and update them promptly.

Everybody Poops is not responsible for any inconvenience caused by inaccurate or outdated bathroom information. Use the app as a helpful guide, and always verify bathroom availability when possible.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or an in-app notice. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
